I Love Lamp

Happy New Year!!! 2011 is here and yet commercial available jetpacks are not. Well, at least we have Real Dolls. I'm just waiting for ones that look like Jane Fonda.

Here's an older Dr. Sketchy's from before Christmas with the lovely Sister Madly.

Joie de Vivre

I did my first Dr. Sketchy's last night. For the uninitiated, it's life drawing with Burlesque girls and booze. The venue, Guilt & Co, was pretty cool, though they were out of Steak Tartar. It's been a long time since I've life drawn and I definitely struggled to find my groove again. Kicked in around the 5 minute poses though I started to overwork the 10 minute ones. The model was the lovely Cara Milk who did a great job and even did a quick burlesque number as an intermission. The biggest challenge with drawing burlesque is what to do focus on each pose. There's the pose/gesture, but there's also the clothing/details, the pattern/texture and the lighting/shine. One of the unscanned drawings won a sketchbook for being too French in a cartoony/funny way. Bully for me!I already bought my ticket to the next one.

I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight

It's been a long fucking time eh me Droogies? Well, I had a good winter holiday but now I'm back in to work. It feels good to have a loose structure back in my day to day business. I'm currently directing my first episode at work and so far that's working out pretty good. I'll even be animating this time around.

The lovely lady to the left is the same girl I attempted to draw from memory here. Since I now have her on my facebook, I had adequate and permitted use of her pictures to do her graven justice! I'm still not sure I got her, so I'll be drawing her again in the near future.

What else can you expect in 2008? 3 or 4 of my 10,000 days project posters, the first one should be done soon. Some stuff for my new comic book project.......and some Marvel Sketchcards later in the year. I'm doing 50 cards for upperdeck and I'll post those once my NDA gets the all clear.

And that's it for now.

We Don't Care About the Young Folks

Hey Gangsters,

I've been drawing/studying Cory Walker today. If you don't know who this comic prodigy is, then check him out. Why do I like him? Well at the risk of sounding like I have a man-crush, I really dig the simplicity this guy throws down. I'm sure it's hard to do, but damn does he make it look easy. It's distinct, effective and flexible. Three things I need to work on and will probably work on, all my artistic life.

Needless to say, here's some photo-ref drawings with my attempt to Walkerfy them. Not really Walkerish, but the simplicity is coming along. Faces are deceptively easy, but I still need to work on eyes. Damn those eyes!

Included in this bevy of beauties are two fashion models, a high school crush, and my muse for life, Shannyn Sossamon.

A Smile From A Frown Circles Round

I once saw Robin Tunney on Stephen Ave here in Calgary. She walked funny but her face was so captivating. You don't have to be perfect to be beautiful.

This One's for the Ladies

I've been taking life drawing(drawing nakee people) at the art college for the last 8 weeks. Here's some of my better results. Images range from one to 15 minutes.

Sorry fellas, no women. The art college has been dishing out alot of breakfast sausage lately.

I'll be planning a new blog marathon soon enough. I'm thinking either Mel Gibson or Blade Runner.

Under my Umbrella-ella-ella

Hey hip cats,

Remember in my first post of this blog where I said part of the reason I started this was because I met one of my fav porn stars here on the streets of Calgary. Well, I finally got a drawing done of her I deem web worthy. I wish the best of luck to her and her new career in veterinary assistantry.

On a related note. Inspiration. What makes a naked girly performing carnal acts of debauchery make me wanna start a blog? Well, inspiration comes from strange places. Part of it was merely the cosmic coincidence of running into her. The universe is a wonderful and strange machine. Imagine the shock of seeing someone in the real world when you've only seen her as a mass of pixels on a computer screen. Breath-taking.

Another part of it is how I'll be remembered. Like Brad Pitt in Troy, the two of us share a passion for achievement and remembrance. That, and rock-hard abs. She's most likely remembered for doing porno, despite her decision to change here career to something long-lasting. But me, I'm just some dude that recognized her. A stranger, a fan-boy, a creep.

What the hell makes me special? If someone stops me on the street, what will it be that they know me from? As an artist, I hope its from my work. Either from my animation or comic book/illustration. It's strange though, both endeavors have idols and gods which could walk the streets completely unnoticed. It's a special kind of celebrity being an artist. You make wonderous things which are seen and read by thousands, but only a handful may know your face.

In spite of all this, I strive to be better in all aspects of my life.

This blog is for my drawings. Watch as they get better.

The Wizard Turns On...

Hey Gang,

Yes, I went to the San Diego Comicon and yes, it rocked my boxers and didn't call the next morning. Fucking amazing.

What a wellspring of geekdom, free shit, artistic gold, professional snobbery, drunken confiding and inspirado. Met a bunch of artists I haven't seen since the Calgary Expo, like Humberto Ramos, Fransisco Herrera, Alberto Ruiz, Robin Mitchell, Jim Zubkavich and Steve Leialoha.

I also got to meet/see some new dudes like Ashley Wood, David Mack, Jim Mahfood, Paul Pope, Colleen Coover, Deanna Marsigliese, Andrew Robinson, Phil Noto, and James Jean.

What a cock show! The most inspirational of all -- Paul Pope. A true artist who chooses comics over any other medium he's done. I have a man-crush on him.

Well after a bunch of swag was bought, lessons learned, people met, and inspiration suckled, I'm more jazzed than ever for the artistic road in front of me. First project after San Diego -- Bread, a short horror story for an upcoming Vicious Ambitious book called 'Pumpkin Juice'

Boo-yaka sha, all up in yo' cahr!

It starts with a bang.

Hey,

I started a blog. Partially because of a pornstar I met one morning on my way to the bank. Amazing when you consider how every little event, the timing of the bus, my decision to get off at a different stop, every crosswalk light, the pace of my walk, every little thing that culminated into me running into her.

I'll get a picture of her up soon enough. I want to do her proper justice. For now, a page of life studies.
