Divorced/Something in the wind

Two bits today. First up, this is one pic of three done for a special Vicious Ambitious sketchbook available for free at this year's Calgary Con-Version. For those uninitiated, it's a sci-fi/fantasy convention held here in Calgary every August. Me my comic book gang, Vicious Ambitious will be attending one or more panels on Sunday. Sunday only folks, but if you are interested in anything else at the convention, do go for longer! I hear there's even a slave auction.

The second item being that I divorced myself from my comic book store of almost two years now. I closed my file there today and it was a touch sad me chumleys. Since I got my file, there's almost always been something missing or something that doesn't belong in there. I decided that enough was enough. Not to slight the store itself or the clerks that work there, but the point of getting a file is to get the stuff you want held and ready for selling the instant you walk in. That said, I was not getting the most of my file.

Woo. What a vent.

Oh! Third Secret Item! My busted Ankle is like 98% better. I can finally get back to working out on Tuesday! Yay! Turkish Sit-ups!

Under my Umbrella-ella-ella

Hey hip cats,

Remember in my first post of this blog where I said part of the reason I started this was because I met one of my fav porn stars here on the streets of Calgary. Well, I finally got a drawing done of her I deem web worthy. I wish the best of luck to her and her new career in veterinary assistantry.

On a related note. Inspiration. What makes a naked girly performing carnal acts of debauchery make me wanna start a blog? Well, inspiration comes from strange places. Part of it was merely the cosmic coincidence of running into her. The universe is a wonderful and strange machine. Imagine the shock of seeing someone in the real world when you've only seen her as a mass of pixels on a computer screen. Breath-taking.

Another part of it is how I'll be remembered. Like Brad Pitt in Troy, the two of us share a passion for achievement and remembrance. That, and rock-hard abs. She's most likely remembered for doing porno, despite her decision to change here career to something long-lasting. But me, I'm just some dude that recognized her. A stranger, a fan-boy, a creep.

What the hell makes me special? If someone stops me on the street, what will it be that they know me from? As an artist, I hope its from my work. Either from my animation or comic book/illustration. It's strange though, both endeavors have idols and gods which could walk the streets completely unnoticed. It's a special kind of celebrity being an artist. You make wonderous things which are seen and read by thousands, but only a handful may know your face.

In spite of all this, I strive to be better in all aspects of my life.

This blog is for my drawings. Watch as they get better.

The Wizard Turns On...

Hey Gang,

Yes, I went to the San Diego Comicon and yes, it rocked my boxers and didn't call the next morning. Fucking amazing.

What a wellspring of geekdom, free shit, artistic gold, professional snobbery, drunken confiding and inspirado. Met a bunch of artists I haven't seen since the Calgary Expo, like Humberto Ramos, Fransisco Herrera, Alberto Ruiz, Robin Mitchell, Jim Zubkavich and Steve Leialoha.

I also got to meet/see some new dudes like Ashley Wood, David Mack, Jim Mahfood, Paul Pope, Colleen Coover, Deanna Marsigliese, Andrew Robinson, Phil Noto, and James Jean.

What a cock show! The most inspirational of all -- Paul Pope. A true artist who chooses comics over any other medium he's done. I have a man-crush on him.

Well after a bunch of swag was bought, lessons learned, people met, and inspiration suckled, I'm more jazzed than ever for the artistic road in front of me. First project after San Diego -- Bread, a short horror story for an upcoming Vicious Ambitious book called 'Pumpkin Juice'

Boo-yaka sha, all up in yo' cahr!
